Dr. Lizite Salzman, PSy.D., HSPP
Hello & welcome!
My name is Lizite (“Lee-Zeet”) Salzman (she/her), and I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I opened Salzman Psychology, LLC in 2017, because I wanted the freedom to focus my work on what I do best. I specialize in CBT because it is so effective, and I love seeing clients learn skills, get better, and graduate therapy knowing they can manage their mental health for life.
How do I know if you are the right person to help me?
-
It’s very important to work with a therapist that is a “good fit”. A good fit means that you feel safe, respected, understood, and comfortable with your therapist. It can be hard to know if you mesh with someone until you reach out and have a conversation, but I try to describe myself below.
-
A good fit also means seeing someone whose therapy style makes sense to you, and which is in alignment with your goals. Read more about CBT so you can get an idea of what to expect.
-
Finally, a good fit means seeing someone who is an expert at treating your individual concerns. I have a very specialized practice, so if your concerns focus on other areas, I might not be the right therapist for you. And that is OK! I want you to get better, so if I don’t think I’m the best person to help you, I will provide you referrals to other therapists who might be a better fit.
What is it like to work with you?
I’m not the type of therapist that sits silently and then says “uh huh” every few minutes.
I teach evidence based skills
I teach concrete, evidence based skills and strategies designed to reduce your symptoms and help you feel better. I also teach you how to practice those skills outside of session, because the more you practice your skills, the faster you will improve.
my goal is to work myself out of a job!
I don’t want you to be dependent on therapy. In fact, my ultimate goal is to work myself out of a job! By the time you done, I not only want you to have achieved your goals, I want you to have mastered the skills you need to maintain your mental health for life.
I provide “study guides/cheat sheets”, and homework practice handouts.
I will teach you about CBT & your diagnosis
I don’t want therapy to be a mysterious process where you feel better, but aren’t really sure why. Instead, I want you to understand your diagnosis, how you got stuck in your current symptoms, and more importantly, how you can use CBT to get UNstuck.
I provide written resources & worksheets.
I will often share my screen during session to provide information, and I will send you these resources so you can use them during treatment, and after therapy has ended.
I bring my sense of humor into therapy.
I show up as my authentic self and you can too
I am relaxed, casual, and to the point. I won’t be offended if you curse, and I don’t care if you come to appointments in pajamas. Therapy is a place where you can be yourself without fear of judgment!
Laughter can be a part of therapy
I also joke, make weird observations, and laugh at the absurdities of life (I’m a true Gen-X!). The problems you are facing are certainly challenging, but being able to take a step back and laugh is a great coping skill and makes therapy so much more enjoyable.
I am focused on YOU.
I am professional and prepared
When you come to treatment, I am 100% focused on you. I show up prepared and on time. I don’t do small talk, and I don’t waste time talking about myself.
session time is your time
If you have ever left a therapy session feeling annoyed because the therapist talked more about themselves than you did, you will not have that experience again with me.
I strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental, affirming, and anti-racist space.
I am a social justice advocate
I welcome all people to my practice, no matter their color, race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious/spiritual orientation, size, or level of physical ability. Oppression has a huge impact on mental health, safety, and overall wellness, and I invite you to talk about its impact on you.
You are welcome here!
I value you as a human who deserves respect, care, and acceptance. I welcome you and encourage you to come to treatment as you are.
